#37 Building Branded Bills from the Ground Up with Sam Coil

June 3, 2019

Meet Sam Coil of Branded Bills.

Sam built an empire from humble beginnings using a utility knife, a scrap of leather and a hand forged iron brand. He sold 30 hats in one day by wearing his creation to work. In the next six months, he sold 80 hats that he made by hand at home after working a full day at his other job. He now owns a large apparel brand, Branded Bills, that sells made to order quality products and has exclusive merchandise partnerships with individuals like Cameron Hanes and Adam Greentree.

From side hustle to apparel success story, Sam continues to live on his own terms and stay true to his path. There’s no right way to do any of it. My hope is that by hearing Sam’s journey it will help you dive deeper into your own. I can’t wait for you to hear this conversation. Tune in now!

In this episode, you’ll hear things like:

  • How to use failure to learn, grow and take your career to the next level
  • How to create a culture of autonomy and creative freedom
  • How to stay true to your path
  • How to approach partnerships with large brands

Favorite quotes from Sam:

  • “Without trying things and without failing things, our business would never grow.”
  • “One of the biggest parts of our success has been our ability to work as a team.”
  • “If it fails, no big deal because at least we tried.”
  • “There’s so much more than working in life.”

A few questions I ask Sam:

  • When you were first starting your business, what was going through your head at that time?
  • Can you give an example of a failure you used to learn and grow?
  • When things started to take off and you started bringing on new employees, what was it like working with other creative minds?
  • How do you stay true to yourselves?
  • What are you working on now that you’re excited about?
  • What’s saving your life right now?
